SNMMI’s AI Trial Finder: Facilitating Patient Access to Radiopharmaceutical Clinical Trials

On August 11, 2025, the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) introduced the “Global Radiopharmaceutical Clinical Trials Finder”, an AI-supported platform designed to make patient enrollment in nuclear medicine clinical trials easier and efficient for patients worldwide.

The interface asks patients about the condition, prior treatments, ZIP code/city of residence, and generates a list of clinical trials they may be eligible for, including the distance to each trial site. It also lets patients know of any ongoing trials within a distance specified by a patient.

The platform is Ai powered and is hosted on the SNMMI website, available at www.snmmi.org/TrialFinder; it is updated daily using data from ClinicalTrials.gov and three other international registries.

The same platform also serves physicians, clinical study personnel, and researchers. For physicians, it simplifies the process of identifying clinical trials that align with patient’s condition and location, allowing them to present trial participation as an option to patients in their care. Per SNMMI, only 3–5 % of eligible patients enroll in clinical trials, and the Trial Finder is expected to address this gap.

Clinical study teams benefit by reduction in time for patient screening, as the platform has built-in screeners for eligibility.  As the trial listings are updated daily, the platform allows daily monitoring of the patient enrollment progress.  Researchers also gain a global view of radiopharmaceutical trials by criteria such as disease type, trial phase, radionuclide, and target biomarker.

Platform Highlights

  • Real-Time data integration on a daily basis across multiple registries
  • Unified user experience: A single interface serves patients, clinicians, and researchers
  • Privacy: No personal data stored or commercialized, ensuring trust and security
  • Facilitating precision medicine: The platform allows easy access and registration to clinical trials across multiple geographies

Final Thoughts

SNMMI’s Global Radiopharmaceutical Trial Finder is a powerful tool connecting patients, providers, and researchers to the latest clinical opportunities in nuclear medicine. It helps address gaps in patient enrollment and is expected to improve the overall efficiency of nuclear medicine clinical trials.
